Members of the UM community and the public are invited to attend GIS Day, an annual forum on the real-world applications of geographic information systems.
The event which is co-sponsored by the Department of Geography and the University of Miami Libraries will feature cartographer Derek Watkins as the keynote speaker. His talk will be titled “Spatial Storytelling” and he is “planning to focus on the disciplinary overlaps between Geography and Journalism, how GIS can be used as a narrative as well as analytical tool, and how journalists use GIS (especially at NYT) to tell a wide range of stories”.
